I Littlebury Leftwich of the County of Bedford and state of Virginia being unfortunately afflicted of body but of a sound mind and disposing memory do constitute and establish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other wills heretofore made and subscribed to by me, In the manner and form as follows (Viz)
Item 1st After the payment of all my just debts and necessary expenses, I will and devise to my wife Francis Leftwich during her natural life and widowhood, one fourth part of my real estate to be laid off and assigned to her in the most compact manner, so as to be a sufficiency for her support and in such a way as to do the least damage to my estate, including the house We now live in, and the necessary buildings attached thereto, also the following negro slaves To Witt, Mily, Deci Joe, Bowser his wife Betsey and her two children, Narcissy and Tener, together with one third part of my estate which I may die possessed of; except slaves and two tracts of Land which I hold in this County, situated one on Wolf Creek and the other on the Lick Mountain, which I shall hereafter devise, and I further desire that the whole of the lands slaves and their increase and other Estate as above named and described to my wife, at her death revert to my children and their heirs; in such proportion as I shall hereafter devise the residue of my estate to them
Item 2nd I will and devise to the children of Sally Reese which may now exist the tract of Land on which she now lives on, lying on Wolf Creek, containing one Hundred and ninety odd acres, reserving unto the said Sally Reese the right of living thereon with the free priviledge of clearing and cultivating the land with the use of the timber thereof in any way she may think proper expressly for her own use and benefit only as long as she may continue to live on the land herself and no longer; and I do further hereby release the said Sally from any claims that may be now due me or in any manner coming to me from her.
Item 3rd I will and devise to the children of Sally Thornhill which may now exist the Tract of Land which I hold in this County on which she now lives lying on the Lick Mountain, which Tract of Land I purchased of James Miller, it being a part of the Tract called Thornhills Tract, reserving to the said Sally Thornhill the right of living thereon with the free priviledge of clearing and cultivating the land with the use of the timber thereon. In any way she may think proper expressly for her own use and benefit only as long as she may continue to live on the land herself and no longer and I do further hereby release her the said Sally from any claims that may be now due or in any manner coming to me from her.
Item 4th I will bequeath and devise to my seven children namely Polly Reese, Jane W. Harrison, Sally Stone Eglentine Cole, John H. Leftwich, Littlebury Leftwich and Joel Leftwich all the residue of my estate both real and personal of every kind and description that I may die possessed of (Except that which I have heretofore devised, to be equally divided among them and there heirs.____
Item 5th Whereas I have at different times during my life made advances to my children (which I then made agreeable to their necessities) and now view them in their several amounts to be nearly equal; It is my will and desire that no accounts be brought up by them, for any such advances.
Lastly I do hereby appoint my relation William Leftwich Jr. and my neighbour Loowick M Daniel my Executors. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 30th day of May Eighteen Hundred and twenty Three.
