BEDFORD CO. TAX RECORDS:

Land tax records are available from 1782 onward. I have not seen them after 1826. Edmond Logwood is never present. Presumably he never owned any land. He died in 1811. His widow Euphen/Euphane Logwood is in the land tax list for the first time in 1820 and is there until at least 1826. She owns 362.5 acres about 12 miles northeast of the courthouse on Elk Creek worth $12/acre or $4350. Buildings account for $1400 of the value. The 1820 tax list indicates that she acquired the land from Joss Tate's estate.

Personal property tax records are available from 1782 onward. I have not seen them after 1824. Categories in the tax lists vary significantly from year to year, which complicates comparison and presentation of data.

Between 1782 and 1790 the first column in the tax list is labelled 'white males over 21'. After 1803 the first column is 'white males over 16'. Between 1791 and 1802 the term 'white tithe' is used. I feel confident that it refers to white males over 16. See the following article concerning the concept of 'tithe' and 'tithable':

DEATH:

The personal property tax records of Bedford Co. indicate that he was dead by 1812. On November 4, 1811 his widow received 3 Negroes and other personal property from his estate (Bedford Co. Deed Records 13/655). Presumably he died in 1811.
