Notes
General:
Tinsley D. Martin is probably a brother of Sion T. Martin (1837-1896) and thus a son of Sion Taylor Martin, but he may a cousin of the younger Sion T. Martin.

CENSUS:

He is not in the Slave Schedule. Sion T. Martin, 23, lives at 1130/1130. In 1850 he is in the household of Taylor Martin, 45, in Independence Co., Ar.

W. H. Hinkle 21 MW Tn Farm laborer </pre>

W. H. Hinkle is presumably the son of Mary's brother Baltis Hinkle, who in 1850 is in the census of Izard Co. with his wife Melly and 2 children. At 4/4 in the household of C. W. Perry, 25, farmer, there are two 22-year old farm laborers. One is C. Beckham, the son of Mary's sister Catharine and her husband Joshua Beckham, thus Mary's nephew. The other is J. R. Hinkle. It is tempting to believe that he is the eldest son of Mary's brother A. J., who is now dead. He is James R. in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. In 1870 he is still in the household of his elder brother William H. and his mother as 'Jams'. He may have been in transition and thus appeared twice in the census.

Tensley D. Martin 54 Tn Tn Tn J. P.
Tabitha E. C. " 47 wife Tn Tn NC Keeping house

His son William T. (31, Ar Tn Ar, drugist) occupies the next entry in the census with his wife and 4 children.

ARRIVAL IN ARKANSAS:

The birthplace of their oldest child suggests that they were in Arkansas by 1847. However Tinsley is not on the Izard Co. tax roll until 1858.
