"James McCurdy, the second son of John and Elizabeth was born in 1793. In the War of 1812, he served two six month enlistments in the Georgia Militia. The first beginning August 26, 1813 and the second beginning September 23, 1814. He was married in 1818 to Rachel Kelly. James and Rachel resided in Madison County, Georgia and raised their family there. James served as tax collector in Madison County, and his occupation is listed as "farmer" in the 1850 Census. James and Rachel had eleven children."
