On August 12, 1718 at a court held for Prince George Co. at Merchantshope, Daniel Higdon, Jos. Carter, Wm. Reese, and Richard Rees or any 3 of them are ordered to appraise the estate of Nicholas Whittmore, Senr, dec'd, and make a report at the next court. (Prince George Co. PROBATE:

Richard Reese died in Prince George Co. before December 11, 1723 (date of inventory). Note that the subsequent date of March 10, 1723 is Old Style.

An account of the estate of Richard Reess, dec'd, was submitted to a court held for Prince George Co. March 10, 1723 in Merchantshope by the administratrix Elizabeth (her X mark) Reese. It was examined and allowed and recorded.

The total value of the estate was £56 16s 3p (£45 17s 10p inventory and appraisement, and £10 18s 5p his crop of 2184 pounds of tobacco). £7 3s 2.25p was paid out to various people, including Wm Reese, Danl Higdon, and John Poythres, leaving £49 13s 3/4p to be divided between the widow (1/3) and the orphans of the deceased (2/3).

A detailed inventory is on page 678 (image 356/401). It was prepared by Richard Pace and Thos Kirkland on December 11, 1723. It consists mostly of routine household items and tools. Two feather beds, one flock bed, one old mare, one young mare, one old poor cow, a small steer, 7 young cattle, 6 cows and a steer, a parcel of hogs.
