BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
The following is on page 390 of CRAWFORD COUNTY, MISSOURI 1829-1987 and is entitled 'Samuel Walton':
Samuel Walton, born in St. Louis, Mo. in 1811, with his wife, Elizabeth Piant Walton (1809-1958) [sic] moved to what was quite a large farm on Lick Creek. They brought with them their son, Pierre Elvie Walton (1848-1924). Pierre Elvie was graduated from the old St. Louis Medical College and set up a practice in St. Louis Co. In 1880, he and Adella Ida Roberts (1847-1931) married, three children: Elvie Walton, Ida Walton Cruishank and Lewis Roberts Walton. Adella assisted her father, Henry Roberts, in founding the oldest newspaper in Crawford Co. by gathering the news, selling advertising, setting type and printing the paper, The Crawford County Mirror. About 1910, Dr. Walton tried to retire from medicine and moved to a farm near Leasburg, Mo. The needs of the people of the community and his compassionate and caring character might have shortened his life. He died in 1924 of pneumonia, contracted after he swam his horse both ways across the flooding Meramec River to deliver a baby. Lewis Roberts Walton and Lucy Land, daughter of John Wesley and Martha Jane Land were married in 1915 and to this union two daughters were born, Virginia Walton Mathias and Opal Walton Rohrer.
