CAROLINE CO. LAND TAX LIST:

Land tax records are available from 1782 onward. The first list of proprietors is for 1787 and prior to then only transactions are available. In 1803 Achilles Carnal inherits 80 acres from his father's estate, and in 1805 he sells 6 acres of it to Jno. White. Until 1815 he has 74 acres. In 1816 20 acres are transferred to his brother Richmond and from 1817 to 1824 he has 54 acres. I have not seen any records subsequent to 1824. Achilles's land is said to be bounded by Richmond Carnal and to be 13 miles west of the courthouse.

CAROLINE CO. PERSONAL TAX LIST:

Personal tax records are available from 1783 onward. Achilles Carnal first appears in the Caroline Co. Personal Tax List in 1794 as a tithable greater than 16 in the household of Moses Carnall, presumbly his father. If he became 16 in 1794, he was born about 1778. He remains in his father's household definitely until 1797 and probably until 1799. From 1800 to 1826 he has his own entry. I have not seen the list for after 1826. Twice he has one slave over 12 but usually he has none. Sometimes he has one horse and sometimes none.
