LAND GRANTS in TENNESSEE:

The following land grants in Tennessee to Ebenezer Byram are from "North Carolina and Tennessee, U.S., Early Land Records, 1753-1931" at ancestry.com. They are all described by metes and bounds. The 1787 grant indicates that Ebenezer was living in Greene Co. in the NE corner of the state in 1787. Greene Co. was formed from Washington Co. in 1783. Little Limestone Creek is today in Washington Co., not in Greene Co. Ebenezer Byram was probably living in Washington Co. in 1782.

There is more than one Beaverdam Creek in Tennessee. The three 400-acre tracts granted to Ebenezer Byram in 1788 may have been in Johnson Co., which is the northeasternmost county in the state. Johnson Co. is 40 miles or so NE of Washington Co. Hawkins Co. is immediately north of Greene and Washington Counties and due west of Johnson Co. All 4 of these countes are in the NE corner of the state.

However, other evidence indicates that Ebenezer Byram was living in Knox Co. as early as 1792. Beaver Creek is in Knox Co., and the three 400-acre grants may have been in Knox Co., which is west of the 4 counties previously mentioned but still in eastern Tennessee. The 1796 land grant on Beaver Creek is probably in Knox Co.

The metes and bounds description indicates that the two grants in July 1794 are for the same 691-acre tract in Cumberland Co. in the Middle District of Tennessee.
