Notes
General:
Moses Carnal was presumably of age, that is, over 21, when he was named as the executor of his father's will, which was probated in 1728.
Moses Carnal moved from Essex Co. to Caroline Co. about 1741. On April 24, 1741 Moses Kernal of St. Ann Parish in Essex Co. sold 50 acres in St. Ann Parish. References to him prior to 1741 are in Essex Co. All subsequent references are in Caroline Co. In April 1742 he is ordered to help clear and maintain a road in Caroline Co.
He died in 1773 in Caroline Co. He left a will, which is not extant, but in the Court Order Book there are references to the will being proved and to the appraisement of the estate. We know who the executors of the will were only because of a lawsuit several years later in 1784 in which the plaintiffs are William and Patrick Carnal, executors of Moses Carnal, dec'd. It is likely that William and Patrick were sons of Moses although they might have been other relatives.
All but the first of the following abstracts are from a series of abstracts of Essex Co. records (1695-1751) by Ruth and Sam Sparacio or from abstracts of Caroline Co. records by John Frederick Dorman (1732---1770) or from Caroline Co. abstracts by the Sparacios (1765-1787).
