General:

Francis Cheatham wrote his will December 3, 1785. He makes a bequest to his two grandsons James and Francis Lockett, but he does not mention their mother. We deduce that their mother was deceased when the will was written.

Elam Lockett was born in about 1772 according to the 1850 census. He is a son of Francis Lockett's second wife. Hence Francis's first wife died before 1772.
